For several years now the Oslo Coalition has been
working together with the People's Republic of China on freedom
of religion and belief. The November 2002 visit of a delegation
from the Oslo Coalition marked the third stage in our dialogue with
the Chinese authorities and representatives of religious communities
as well as the academic community. In focus were Buddhism and Daoism
in Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi og Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), not
least the possibilities for establishing relations linked with especially
Buddhism but also Daoism and SARA (the State Administration for
Religious Affairs) on the national and province level. Another important
point was dialoguing on freedom of religion with SARA, in view of
recent declarations on freedom of religion and belief.
